Anyone who thinks that because they know the historical figure and statesmanship of Emperor Franz Joseph, they know the man himself is mistaken. He held an office and a profession that he did not choose, but that fate offered him. This book paints a picture of the emperor that the reader searches in vain in history books: a citizen appears before us, a family man who, although sometimes stubborn and impolite, generous and petty, is still a human being. Franz Joseph's hitherto unknown features are revealed in this book. The reader can peek into the imperial toilet, the bedroom and study, the dining room, and witness where and how the emperor lived his everyday life. In the meantime, of course, the bourgeois features of the Habsburg ruler are revealed, but his dignity is not tarnished. This book does not redraw the now classic image of the Austrian emperor, but it does reveal some of the ruler's characteristic, lovable qualities that bring his personality closer to people.
